Q: Won’t the funeral
home be upset with me if I tell them I am providing my
own casket?
A: Funeral homes have known
since the Federal Trade Commission passed the Funeral
Rule in 1994 what the new regulations meant, and how
they must comply with them. A reputable funeral home
would not, and should not try to change your decision of
providing your own casket. It is both a violation of the
Funeral Rule, and may cause undue duress to those making
that choice. The vast majority of funeral homes will
respect your wishes without question. However we have
learned from our clients that if you haven’t yet
purchased your casket with us, they likely will pressure
you into buying their overpriced caskets; they may try
to convince you that their prices are comparable
Or that we don’t
deliver on time or our caskets arrive damaged. There are
quite a number of tactics being used to try and save
their casket sale. If you either purchase the casket
before going to the funeral home, or tell them it has
already been purchased then it no longer becomes an
issue to them and you avoid their hard sell.
Q: What is the
difference between a coffin and a
casket?
A: A coffin has six sides, is
wider at the shoulders and tapers towards the feet and
is usually made of wood. A casket, on the other hand,
has four sides and may be made of a variety of
materials, including woods and metal. Caskets come in
different sizes, from oversized, standard, infant and
youth.
Q: If I
pre-purchase my casket where is it kept?
A: We usually hold the casket
in our showroom untill needed or we will wait to ship it
when we are notified it is needed, by the family.
